You can put a different head on your spectra, no problem. You cannot change button function without reprogramming, but button legends are easily swapped to match your button layout. And using a a7 will work, but the additional buttons will do nothing except in the control head test mode. And a9's are the ones that contain programming info, so they can't be swapped as easily.

oh ok. So as long as i line the legends up the A7 the same as on the A5 they will work. Ofcourse excluding the the extra ones.

Can the radio be setup to use the extra buttons even though it has a A5? That way if I ever go to an A7 it will already be programmed to use them extra buttons?

If the radio os programmed as a a5, the software will only give you the 3 buttons on the right, once its been forced to an a7, you can add them. The only difference between a a5 and a7 hardware wise is the front plastic.

you could put any head that has the same amount of characters on the screen except a A5 for A9 and it will work, but if you will not reprogram the radio with the new head the head will show you the cannel names as the last time the head was programmed.
