USB > Serial PLEASE HELP

Hi all

I have come across a very FRUSTRATING problem that i am hoping someone can help me out with.

I have a prolific usb to serial converter i use for programming my moto's. i have used RIBS in the past and they have worked without fail everytime with this converter.

I purchased 2 ribless leads not too long ago to use with my xts3000's /mts2000 and xts 5000. My problem i am faced with is this (and it has me pulling my hair out)

- both leads originally did not work for the xts series but did without a problem for my mts2000. I since installed a program called network radio programmer (which was on the astro25 disc) and that for some weird reason (MOST probably coincedence) let me program all of the radios without any troubles.

I have now tried to program them again and lo and behold, the thing doesnt want to play ball AGAIN. It still lets me program my xts5000 and mts 2000 but not my 3000's

- when i click the read button, the radio goes into CSQ mode and begins to program, the cps also acknowledges it by stating it is reading device. after about 10 seconds the radio exits CSQ mode and the CPS states that communication with radio failed......... :x :x :x the thing is, it was working fine a couple of days ago and now it doesnt on just those series of radio....

If anyone has any insight please let me know what i should try

PS. i have tried it on both a laptop and my desktop. i am using cps R05.02.00 for the xts3000's and R10.00.00 for the 5000

Thanks in advance
Cain

Most people have found dongle-type USB to serial converters to be unreliable; the prevailing wisdom, I believe, is to obtain a serial PCMCIA card, which has a real UART chip.
