Sooooo.... I hook my XTS-3K up to my RIB box, fire-up CPS. The radio beeps and displays "1 CSQ" and I can proceed to program the radio (successfully).

My question: What does the "1 CSQ" mean? Yeah, I know that "CSQ" means "carrier squelch"... My question is what is the radio trying to signify with this? Inquiring minds, and all that.

Thanks,

When the radio is in the RF test mode, the 1 CSQ means test frequency 1 carrier squelch mode. It should have several freq's under this mode along with the following modes:
CSQ ( Carrier Squelch )
TPL ( Tone private line )
AST ( Astro )
USQ ( Carrier Unsquelch )

I have observed that a number of models display "1 CSQ" while being programmed. From memory, this includes Systems Sabers and trunked MTS2000s.

older firmwares do this, newer go to a "programming" mode instead... i have two generations of MTS2000's, first gen do the 1csq, newer ones say "PROGM"

You can also get to test mode without the programming cable/computer. There is a button sequence. I believe the upper side button on portables five times at startup and home button five times at start up on mobiles. There are nine "channels" with a separate TX and RX freq. For each channel you have options for squelch type channel spacing, mod. type. Frequencies are listed in the first few pages of the basic service manual. If used for testing keep in mind, on some radios, while in test mode, power out is defaulted to "low".
