GM300 band swap?

I have a GM300 16channel full-signaling radio and another GM300 in a different frequency range with 8 channels, no signaling.
Is it possible to swap logic boards and turn the 8 channel model into a full-signaling 16 channel model, and vice versa with the other?
If so, how?

You should be able to swap the RF board and PA into the unit with the expanded logic board, and by blanking and reinitializing the logic board then doing a complete realignment on the radio you should have a fully functional unit. Assuming that, for example, one radio is VHF and the other UHF then the blanking and reinitializing would be necessary to tell the eeprom that the logic board is now in an ___ unit.

Reading about it, it looks like too big a PITA.

Nope, you can re-initialize them as GM300's. See the following thread:

Hello wavetar:
Is it possible to blank the GM300 with maxtrac lab and then reinitiate with the GM300 program ?
In other words would the maxtrac lab blank the GM300 or even say the M120 logic bd and allow it to be recognized as a blank bd so that the GM300 program would allow you to reinitiate it ?
Thank you

Read the thread and also the gm300 batlabs page about reinitializing the radio. I did it, and it worked.
First, record the softpot settings accessible from the 'F2' service menu of the GM300 program.
Next, use Maxtrac software to blank the board, then use the program's bitbanger to type in the hex strings shown at the URL references in the link a few posts above this. Don't alter anything else, it isn't necessary.
It should then allow you to initialize your radio with the GM300 program, follow the prompts and you're all set. Finally, plug your tuning values back in.

Wavetar's hack does indeed work.. I had a radio with a corrupted codeplug that killed RX, and blanking/reinitializing brought it back to life.
However, I forgot to copy down the panel number before blanking, and now obviously the front controls are kaput. What's a common panel number for a 16-channel, 10-watt, full-signalling 438-470 GM300? The model number is M04GMC29C3AA and the serial is 159TXUHxxx
edit: nvm, answered my own question.. it's 005.

Perhaps, but this thread is about the GM300.
