MCS2000 CPS Computer Requirements
Anybody know what the system requirements are needed for running the MCS2000 CPS? I'm using an IBM ThinkPad 365XD laptop with 40mb of RAM with Windows 98. I keep getting a "device not supported" error when I try to read or write to the radio. I'm using a factory Mororola RIB and cable. I tried using a desktop with 512mb RAM running Windows XP and have no problems reading or writting....

i use an older ibm 380z laptop running me and a newere desktop running xp for mcs's with no problems and i've used other laptops running 98 with the newest cps with no problems. what cps version are you using? are you programming from the mic jack or the bottom port? check power at the rib, put in a new battery?

Re: MCS2000 CPS Computer Requirements
I'm programming through the mic jack. Previously I was trying to use the ThinkPad and it only had 8mb of ram and it wouldn't even open the code plug because there wasn't enough memory. I purchased a 30mb memory module for the laptop and now I can open the code plug but can't read or write to the radio.
Using the same RIB, cable, and power for RIB, connected to my desktop PC I can read, write to the radio. For some reason the Laptop can't read or write.... I was wondering if I was at the limit for the necessary RAM needed on the laptop.
The laptop has no problem reading, writting to my 1225 radios

Re: MCS2000 CPS Computer Requirements
Straight out of the readme file for MCS CPS:
Hardware Requirements:
Processor 400 MHz or higher Pentium grade Processor
Memory 128 MB RAM minimum for Windows 98 Second Edition, NT
and 2000
256 MB RAM minimum for Windows XP (Home or
Professional)
Hard Disk Space 1 Gigabyte Drive with 450 MB minimum free space (for a
Typical Installation, including Help Audio-Visual
Tutorials) or 60 MB minimum free space (for a Compact
Installation)
Notice they are stated as requirements, not simply recommendations. While it may indeed run on less, your mileage is going to vary. Your memory isn't even at 1/3 of what is supposedly required, same with the 120MHz processor.

your memory is your problem, you definately need more. look up the laptop specs and see what the max is that the computer will recognize and go with that.

Re: MCS2000 CPS Computer Requirements
40mb of RAM is the max for the 365XD..... I might have to opt to upgrade for a new laptop with more memory. Currently I have all my programming CPS loaded on the ThinkPad... my 1225 software requires Windows 95/98 and won't run on XP, that's why I've been hanging onto this old laptop..... after moving I've found all my original Motorola programming CD's, but somehow lost my 1225 CPS disk....I was hoping if I upgraded the memory I'd be able to program my MCS and Astro Sabers with it...

Re: MCS2000 CPS Computer Requirements
MTS/CPS CPS will run on a P2/400, but it can slow down when loading large C/P's or you do drag and drop. It is really designed to run on modern machines (at last).
