Astro Saber 'Dgital ready' dummy question

Post by MotoFAN »

Hi all!

I am thinks about purchasing Astro Saber:

Flashcode: 0000010000009 (obtained from RSS, not from sticker)
Firmware: 03.20.01.00
DSP: I05.00.18

Accordingly to Flashcode, this unit is Analog only (Digital ready), i.e. doesn't support Astro.

But seller told me:
RSS allows me to program in analog as well as digital, and mixed mode RX in the unit. However i am unable to test if it will fully work. So per the software it will allow me to choose the digital fields. With other units those fields are non user changeable with out the unit being true digital.
Question to Asto guru:

How you thinks, this one ir really can do digital (works in Astro mode) or ... ?

P.S.
The seller cannot check up it can transmit in a digital mode or not.
I am biggest fan of XTS2500 and ASTRO Digital Saber.

Regardless of what anyone tells you, the radio is an analog radio.
The first zero in the flashcode tells you that.
Also, your firmware is much too old to do anything digital, and if it
did it would be VSELP, not IMBE -- but it doesn't anyway.
I've never tried to make an analog Astro Saber receive mixed
mode but I would have no reason to do so.

Thank you, Tom!

I thinks similar, but wished to be convinced.

It is a VSELP radio. I had a very similar radio and when I key it up in digital mode, my IMBE astro spectra will act like as if it's decoding but no audio will come over.

Same thing on scanner, it will show as "DG" on my PSR-500 but it won't decode.

Oh yeah, VSELP is unmonitorable on scanners, so that gives you some "privacy"!

If this is one of the eBay units I politely told this seller that his add is somewhat misleading as the radio is NOT digital capable according to the flashcode presented. He even acknowledged that it did not do digital but has not adjusted his wording in the add!

Seems a little wrong if you ask me! Good thing you did some research.

regards.

Well, technically it doesn't give either the Astro CAI operation option (Q806) or the Analog only (Astro Ready) option (Q241), so if memory serves it would indeed be VSELP.

I believe that the flashcode given above reads out as
conventional operation only and nothing else.

Flashcodes that do not have either IMBE or astro ready analog only in them are vselp digital. I have had several, they are easily upgraded to IMBE via a firmware upgrade and new codeplug.
