I have a FD radio that was dropped, and one of the flex connector attachments on the main board broke off the "ears" that allow it to fold over and stay in place. I get a display and TX audio from the front of the radio only - not from the speaker mic, but no recieve audio from either. Anyone know off-hand what the going flat rate is for an XTS2500 VHF MII?
Thanks,
Jim
XTS2500 Flat Rate ?

That is physical damage. They won't (or shouldn't) cover that under flat rate.

You never know what you can get away with. I had an under warranty FD XTS5000 that was ran over by an Engine and the keypad connector was sheared off of the pc board. I put a new case on it and sent it in. It was repaired no charge under warranty! They replaced everything including the brand new case.
I think Motomexi just wants to bill Motorola and does not really care.

Even so, if they indicate that they want a fee estimated if physical damage is found then the repair can be accomplished.KB9KST wrote:That is physical damage. They won't (or shouldn't) cover that under flat rate.

I don't know how bad it is for the 2500s, but we had a PR400 go in w/ physicial damage and the estimate came back at $252 (cheaper to buy a new radio)
Also, FWIW, Motorola is offering RSA Comprehensive on all high-tier products, it runs about $10 a month, and covers all damage (including physical, liquid and chemical) except abuse.
Re: XTS2500 Flat Rate ?
I had sort of considered doing the maintenance contract route, but that seemed kinda sneaky, and I'm not sure if I could convince the local FD that is the way to do it.
I sent in four Astro Saber-R's that I bought off eBay that were nearly trashed, and I got back four Astro Sber-R's that were like brand new, including the cases, and latest firmware. I did the vocoder monkey business AFTER I got them back, and Vola! Four like-new fully loaded Astro Saber-R's for about $1300.00, including the original purchase price.
There's no obvious exterior physical damage, other than normal wear and tear for a typical FD radio - and out here in BFE; it's not too bad. I have to say this: That was my first look inside a 2500, and I wasn't terribly impressed with respect to their durability. If you sneezed on it while you were servicing it; you'd probably have to replace most everything inside!
Thanks for all of the info! I was just trying to get a ballpark idea what it would cost to flat-rate it before I call Motorola on Monday. The Chief is a friend of mine, and he's sweating bullets because his budget is being held up while the city officials argue over nonsense.

Re: XTS2500 Flat Rate ?
I've sent a few of these in for flat rate with no problems. Try and put the flap back in place the best you can and send it it. The worst csae is they will refuse repair and you will be out shipping. Unfortunately these connectors cannot be replaced easily (I've tried) and most MSS won't be able to do it.
