MTS2000 Model III Programming Issue

I have aquired a MTS2000 recently, the radio works fine, I can read and write it in RSS 6.07, but can only READ it in CPS ... the radio refuses to write, mind you CPS doesn't throw any errors it continues like the radio wrote successfully.

The radios firmware version is R6.27..so it should work in CPS.

Any ideas on why this will read/write fine with DOS RSS but will not work with Windows CPS?

Infact I have just noticed, that after READING the radio in CPS ... CPS gets the WRONG FLASHcode for the radio!?

My radios flashcode is (taken from the 5 button press trick): 231104-10d300-3
CPS says the flashcode is: 231104-100000-3

??

Just out of curiosity, is that one of the VHF European models (made in EU)? The 6.27 firmware is why I'm asking.

Well for one, the CPS may not like your 4th digit (D) which contains Q947 Apco packet data.... Not really a compatible option on an MTS... The DOS R06.07 doesn't show the flashcode like the CPS does in the radio wide screen. The CPS might kick that option out basically because it doesn't know what to do with it, while the DOS R06.07 being a little older package just leaves it there and moves on...

As far as why it's also dumping the 3rd digit.... No idea...

I ran into a similar issue on an MTS years ago with conventional voting scan and some real old DOS rss R02.00.01 I think was the version.. I read/wrote to an MTS and it was too old to know what conventional voting scan was, so it wrote the radio without the option, basically the same thing you are describing.

What version CPS are you using?

R02.00.01 hey, if I'm relegated to using DOS R06.07 thats fine, I'm not really losing anything. I just really want to know why its dumping that part of the codeplug.

Did you not read the first part of my post about the Apco packet data... That might be why it's dumping your flashcode...

Right I understand that, what I ment was, is why does the CPS act funny like that, while the RSS will program it no problem. You would think as far as that is concerned CPS would allow that to work.

It's no problem I guess, I'll just break out the DOS RSS machine.

Have you actually tried writing to the radio with CPS after you see that the flashcode has changed in the radio wide section? Or do you notice the change on the read, and have not written to it yet?

I've tried writing, it will try to do something and it puts the radio in program mode. Then the radio just reboots and nothing is changed. I found out it was the codeplug when I tried to clone the information into the radio. Thats when I realized that the CPS was dumping part of the flashcode. (As the error came up about the feature sets being different.)

And I've confirmed that CPS dumps that particular part of the flashcode, by reading the radio and looking at radio wide information.
