XTS3000 Trunking Problems

I'm running into some problems I haven't seen before programming an XTS3000 Model II 800mhz. I'm working on setting the radio up to receive only, but the CPS goes into error model when I change the Affiliation type to "On-PTT". The "Digital Capable System" checkbox is also greyed out, and there are no Astro trunking options. There are Astro Conventional options.
I'm running CPS R05.02.00
Radio is..
500008-000480-0
Rebanding Enabled
Host 06.71.00
DSP 08.03.03
I didn't have any problems like this on my other 800mhz XTS3000...

Looks like you have one of the 9600cc P25 xts3K's. With P25 techology you must affiliate and it doesn't act like the older 3600 baud systems that allow you to use the On-PTT affiliation setting.

That's what I was afraid of... I guess I will have to blow a 1C5E flash into this thing to make it work.
Thanks!

If it has 9600 baud firmware, then it will still require auto-affiliation!
What firmware is your radio? If it's R06.xx.xx, then you have 9600 firmware.

What about TX inhibit on the secure switch... It may be programmed to auto affiliate, but shouldn't.
His firmware is listed as "Host 06.71.00", so it's the 9600 rebanded firmware.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe with the 9600 firmware, if the radio cannot affiliate, it will not receive...period. So setting the switch to TX inhibit (if it can be in 9600 firmware) won't accomplish anything.

Well I was basing my info off of the threads about the 5000 where you put the channels un an unreachable channel (Ch 17 and no CHAN in the menu). People have said they've been able to get (recieve/listen to) the system, and it never affiliates.

Ah yes, the 'hidden channel' trick popularized by Elroy Jetson. I have read many threads regarding it, but don't recall the XTS5000 on a
9600 system being mentioned specifically. Would you be kind enough to provide a link?

I guess I had some things crossed in my mind when I was writing it earlier today. I did find
this article, and some hint at the 3000s working on 9600 systems, and some say they don't. So maybe some of the older 6.xx.xx firmware in the 3Ks will work, I'm not sure.

Thank you otaku! That's the one I was looking for, but couldn't find it. I don't have any 5000s at my disposal, so I can't test this method out. It would probably be easiest to test with a VHF/UHF system since you know what frequencies it should be transmitting on. So if you receive it without any issues, then you know it's fine. You could test both the TX inhibit method as well as the Channel 17+ method.

I had some 3000s with R06.11.XX firmware and a 5000 with R07.XX firmware and both were flashed 9600 that I demod to a friend down in Phoenix on both the PHX P25 9600 system and the mesa 3600 baud systems about a year ago and they both worked great using the hidden channel method and auto scan enabled.
the 3000 was FC 100008-000480
and the 5000 was FC 180008-000482
Give it a try before putting a whore flash in the radio.
Mike
Oh yeah I forgot one more thing, don't turn on smartzone, just listen to single sites and you should be ok

Just to clarify, if SZ is turned on (on a 3600) system, and is hidden (ch 17+), and the swtich is set to TX disable, will it still attempt to auto affilate when it hits that scanned channel?
On the 5k, I thought the option under the trunking was removed that had the automatic/PTT, even for the "disabled" (SN) systems? So, just trying to figure out how it talks or doesn't talk with the 5k, with the hidden channel trick.

The only time on a 3000 it will try to affiliate is whenever a talkgroup within a system set for smartzone is selected. If it's in a scan list, but never directly accessed, it will never try to affiliate. That is for 3600 systems on XTS3000s, I have no idea how 9600 systems on either the 3K or 5K operate.
