I wish I could swear on here (because I need to)...... Although I have no problem bringing up ID's in my call list, I've never
been able to figure out how to do a selcall on the bloody thing.(the 'SEND' part) The way you do it on an analog Spectra ain't the way on
Astro..... I'm pressing the buttons wrong-- What am I missing?

On the astro spectra, you have two calling options, "Page" and "Call". Page is the same as "call alert" and will simply send out an MDC burst to be ack'd by the appropriate radio, using the "sel" button OR ptt.
Call is the "selective calling" option, press the button set up for 'call' and locate the ID you want, then press the PTT switch to send the call and continue holding it for the voice part usually associated with a sel-call.

Re: MDC selcall on Astro Spectra
Actually I discovered the thing I was doing wrong about a half hour after I posted (remember, this is after not
being successful for 3 years..., though actually half-hearted trying) In fact what I was doing wrong was pressing and holding
the call or page button instead of doing a quick press. (I know about the difference between page and call- it's just
the key sequence on other moto radios didn't work on the Astro Spectra.) But thanks. Finally it works.
