What do you mean where do you look for them? Are you talking about in the RSS or the physical radio? I honestly don't know why you would want to convert it. You can just program it without the secure mode on, it works fine. Mine is also kxj and I haven't seen the need to change it over.

My x9000's work ok, but what I would like to know is where to find the options, where to look in the radio

What exactly are you trying to do? If you leave the radio as is for the secure options, if you have them or not, it really doesn't make a difference..(at least I never had a problem on four different x9000's)

Take a look at the bottom view photo on this web page:
http://www.open.org/~blenderm/syntorx/vtourvx9k.html

Pull off the Internal Option Board(s) Shield. If you have any internal option boards they will be plugged in under the shield. If you do not have the Securenet option board, check the personality board jumpering using this web page:
http://www.open.org/~blenderm/syntorx/boardsx9.html

If your personality board is jumpered for Securenet, but, you do not have the Securenet hardware any longer then you should change the jumpering for non-Securenet operation.

If you find any other types of internal option boards, there is a partial part number list on this web page:
http://www.open.org/~blenderm/syntorx/o ... ml#x9kibrd

The W option codes on the label under the top lid can give you an idea of how the radio was configured by Motorola when it was new. You can lookup the W option codes at the bottom of the above web page (check the serial number on the label aginst the radio's serial number first).
