Converting ASTRO25 radios from M2 to M3

Post by dxon2m »

I was wondering if it is possible to convert ASTRO25 radios from a model 2 to model 3. Aside from the obvious hardware surgery, does it involve blowing s-records using lab (which I don't think is possible on ASTRO25 platform) or just dumping a model 3 codeplug?

The reason why I'm asking is I noticed there are codeplugs out there labeled as model 3, but what is the good use of it if your radio does not have the same serial/flashcode as the donated codeplug. Is it just a "FYI" type information or is there actually a useful application of it?
