Does the STX821 RSS usable with other models? I know the Visar and HT1000 Share the same software.

It's a single purpose RSS AFAIK. The HT1000/JT1000/Visar have their own seperate version.

Anyway to deactivate the TX inhibit on a busy channel in the STXs? I cannot find it in the RSS.

If you're talking about trunked systems, there is no direct analog to BCL. Rather, whether a user can "barge in" on another user active on a talkgroup depends upon the trunking format type. "Message" trunking permits barge in; "PTT" trunking inherently does not, because when you press the key, you are going back to the data channel.

I am speaking of use on conventional simplex/repeaters. The feature for example would prevent different groups on a community repeater from talking over top of each other. We are trying to deactivate this TX inhibit feature but cannot find the option.
I am not sure if they are 821s they have only STX on the front. The model is H35JNC5170GN.

I'm not sure I understand your problem completely, but if you want to turn TX on in a certain channel personality, go to that personality in your RSS and disable "receive only". Your TX options will re-appear in the screen and you may program them as desired.

Anti-barge in on a community repeater is usually a function performed by the community repeater controller.
While BCL is a feature of some mobiles and portables, I do not believe it to be an STX feature. These radios were primarily intended to be used on trunked systems, and while most had some conventional capability, the features were limited.

This TX inhibit also occurs on simplex when a carrier is present. The issue is a setting in the portable. I am just not sure if it can be disabled.

If I understand when you key up, the radio won't xmit because it senses another station being received. Key up a second time quickly & it will go through. My buddy had a conv 800 repeater in downtown Miami. When I would key up I would hear static like open squelch but no one else was on the freq. The STX was hearing noise & thought the rptr was busy, but wasn't. If this is your problem, key up a 2nd time quickly. This forces the radio to xmit. Hope this solves your problem. GARY N4KVE

GARY N4KVE,
You are correct. I am looking for a permanent solution (via programming if there is one) since the radios are use for public safety. Thanks.

I found this today in the STX manual., page 9:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HOW TO OPERATE THE STX CONVENTIONAL RADIO
The following pages will take you through the stepby-
step procedures for the STX Conventional radio's
functions. Follow these instructions carefully and you'll
be well on the way to mastering your radio.
To begin, turn on the STX radio by turning the
on/off/volume control clockwise.
Transmitting a Voice Message
Press the PTT switch to transmit. If the channel is
clear (no voice traffic is heard), no monitoring is necessary.
If the channel is not clear, the radio will not transmit
when you press the PTT. Instead, your radio will
unsquelch and monitor for as long as the PTT is
pressed. If you keep the PTT pressed, the STX radio
will transmit as soon as the channel is clear.
A lightning bolt appears at the top left of the display
to indicate that you are transmitting. When the lightning
bolt is present, speak clearly into the grille area of the
radio.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guess that means your stuck with it the way it is. It's a default feature and can not be changed.

Terry you can quick key a second time and it will force transmit. Every 821 I've had will do that, but as you said, no way to turn off that feature. Kind of annoying and strange on a public safety radio but than it is 20 year old technology too.

Right. N4KVE also mentioned that you can quick-key a second time as a workaround.
The OP and I had an exchange by PM about this. Nobody ever really answered his question about being able to turn the feature on or off in RSS. He was certain that there must be a programming option, but he couldn't find it.
I just wanted to post this page out of the STX manual for the benifit of all interested. It kind of confirms that there IS NO programming option.

I was worried that it was not an option that could be disabled.
Thank you to all for researching this.

What is the part number for the STX software. I could not find it on my MOL by search catalog.

I'd be surprised if the STX RSS wasn't NLA by now.

Looks like I am going to need to send mine off for programming then.

Not real sure, it's obviously an "older" version.
