Hello All,
Im getting my HT1000 programmed and have a few questions.

There is a friend of mine on GMRS that has when he releases the PTT button it makes a squelch type of noise, probably a second long. How can I do this to my radio?

Also, What is a total list for the following that can be put on my radio as far as options for the following?
-The Emergency Button
-Green Top Button
-2 Black Lower Buttons

I might have a few more questions, which ill post later on.

You mean a noise from the radio that's transmitting? That would be very unusual.
The common "noise when releasing PTT" is a "talk permit" burst that's heard on
trunked radios. Most of us try to eliminate ANY noise at either end of the circuit
when the PTT releases.

Too many combinations to list. Get together with the person or shop that's doing your
programming for you and work with them to find out what you can do.

The squelch burst is on the receivers end, not the broadcaster. If anyone could list them id really appreciate it. Thanks!

The "squelch" is probably a mdc post ID. Does it sound like this?

No it isnt a MDC ID or anything. just a squelch burst everytime he unkeys. Here is a example:

It can be heard after he says "97".

heh. It was recorded with my cell phone so I expected bad quality.

Was that radio traffic going through a repeater?

It sounds like the squelch tail from the first transmission was due to the reverse burst incompatibilities between the various brands of radios (ie. kenwood and motorola)

Every time a Sgt or Lt on a PD in a few cities over unkeys up it does the same "Squelch burst."

This is a long shot, but:

If you have two agencies sharing a channel;

If both are repeated;

If one of the agencies is using PL 3B ; and

If the other agency is using DPL,

Then when a subscriber on the DPL system unkeys, the transmitter on the the PL system will key and unkey briefly. The reason is that the DPL turn off code (200 msec @ 134 Hz) usually falses a 3B PL detector.

Only one agency is using the channel, if that is the reason why, would would it be the sergeants radios only?

The police in the city where I live have a similar problem. They originally installed a Kenwood system with both kenwood mobiles and portables (and I assume a kenwood repeater). They recently switched to HT1250 portables. The portables never mute quietly and always have the "squelch crash" on the dispatch frequency. It is very loud and annoying. I thought that it was a reverse burst issue since they were using a kenwood repeater, so I reprogrammed one of them with the "non standard reverse burst" option but it didn't help. Is there any suggestions to get the radio to mute quietly? My Kenwood radio mutes quietly on the frequency about 50-75% of the time.

our Vertex VXR7000 has the same quirk. It's like the Motorola radios don't like the PL cutoff. My MTS2000, Astro Saber, XTS3000 and HT1000 all have a 50/50 chance of making that annoying squelch crash when the repeater drops. Reverse burst has been enabled, squelch fine tuning played around with...no avail. The Vertex has no problem when received on non-Motorola radios, my Icom F-521 mutes fine every time, as even does my "ancient history" Icom IC-H16.
