MTX8000 "Codeplug Too New" Error workaround?

Folks, this maybe has been asked before, but I could not find it in the index so I will ask it again.
Trying to program some 800MHz MTX8000 radios with conventional freqs, B3s and B5s, and get the "Codeplug too new for RSS" error. Using RSS R06.00.00 version and I know it is outdated, but like I said before, I am just doing conventional channels/freqs only, no trunking. I can get the RSS to read the codeplug, but then it errors out.
Here is the question, it there a way to spoof the RSS? Maybe modify an older codeplug then using Clone to get it into the radio? I have tried cloning it and I get a Checksum error which tells me that there is still some reading of the codeplug prior to writing over it going on.
Is there something in the codeplug that I can hack with a hex editor?
Thanks,
Rob
