Systems Saber Problem

Hi everyone,

okay I searched the forums through and through and I cannot find an explanation or answer to my problem. I am trying to program a UHF Systems Saber model 3 using the sys saber RSS version R04.00.00. The RSS says the radio is a 440-470 MHz split, now every time I load a codeplug into the radio it accepts it with no problem but when I key up it will transmit for about a half a second and then stop and emits the low pitch tone. Can anyone tell me if I am doing something wrong in the RSS? Thanks in advance

At a guess, its not a programming issue, so much as a frequency issue. What frequencies are you trying to run? Do you know if it has it ran frequencies in that range before? Do you know if all the modules in it are for the same split? It sounds like your VCO is unlocking, which means the frequency is out of range of the synthesizer module.

Unless you physically check the part numbers on the modules Id bet someone tried to put a mid split codeplug in there and pass it off as a 440-470 that when it actually has low split. When that happens the radio and the modules wont play nice and you get a tone. For the heck of it blow a low split 403-433 codeplug in there and throw a few freqs in that range I bet it will work. The majority of the UHF system sabers that are avalible in mass numbers are the low split as the only users of those radios were the goverment in that band. With the correct modules that radio is still able to be converted but you would have to change 4 of the 5 modules and have it aligned..

Yup, dumped a 403-433 codeplug into the radio and now it works fine. Thanks for your help guys but one more question, how would I possibly go about changing the modules and are they hard to find? Thanks again!

Systems use the same modules as a regular saber. Sometimes members here have them laying around. I dont have any right now. You can try to find a cheap saber I on ebay and swap them out. Its not that hard. The hardest part is realigning the radio for the higher spit frequencies

You will need the following modules for the 440 to 470 range:

U2 - Filter/Amp/Mixer - NLE9432A - this is the rcvr front end
U202 - RF Amplifier - NLE9472A - 5W PA or NLE9483A - 2W PA
U203 - FDS - NFE6062A - this is the filter/detector switch
U300 - VCO/Synthesizer - NLE9462A

As stated earlier, you can use the modules from another system saber or saber radio. You will require a complete alignment.
