NTN1153D DES-XL module

Post by pyr8 »

I recently purchased a NTN1153D DES-XL module from Ebay...the person i bought it from told me that it would work with a Astro Saber (anolog). After doing some more research after the fact, it seems that its only compatible with a digital Astro Saber. Can anyone lend some guidance on this?!

Thanks in advance!

An NTN1153 DES-XL module can be physicall installed in any Astro Saber, no matter if the radio is flashed for digital operation or not.

If the radio is not flashed for digital, then you would only be able to use DES-XL encryption on analog channels.

If the radio is flashed for digital, then you would be able to use DES-XL over P25, by selecting the "DES-XL Tx Default" selection on the conventional personality page secure tab. Normally you'd want to use an encryption algorithm designed for P25 digital, such as DES-OFB, but since the module in question does not support DES-OFB, you're just left with DES-XL.
