It's nothing special. You can make your own flash cables just like these from info on batlabs.com.
Only a few radios can be flashed without a dongle, so for most of the radios listed, you need a
special flashport dongle directly from mother M.
It's kinda a nice package if your just getting into programming Motorolas, and don't have any programming cables or rib.

I haven't seen any aftermarket smart ribs which this claims to be....

This doesn't claim to be a SmartRIB, it claims to be a FlashRIB. Big diff. The former is a complex device involving a store-and-forward FlashROM, the latter is basically just a standard RIB with the special bootstrap lines built in - used on some European models as far as I know. Same thing with the Pro series radios and needing a flash adapter.

That's pretty consistent with the spelling and description in the listing... Eastern European or Russian... And sold through an eBay member with a U.S. account.

This Flashrib is the same as the Unirib. The schematic of it is on my homepage.
You can also flash the MC/MTS2000 radios with it,but only with MT/MC2100,GM/GP1200 or MTS20xx firmware!
If you have the native MCS/MTS2000 firmware/codeplug files, you can also do this too,but I never seen them somewhere out.
