Looking for tips/ suggestions on how to keep mini-connectors from vibrating loose. Using pliers to tighten seems logical, but I can't certify that happens with the techs in the field. Not aware of any torque settings either. Locktite can cause poor grounding of the shield unless I get the expensive conductive stuff. Any suggestions?

You can take some pliers and clamp down on the connector just a tad so that it looks slightly oval shaped but will still (with a little patience) screw on to the radio. Once you get it started you'll probably have to use to pliers to run it on down tight. Mine got bent accidentally and when I put it on I have to have pliers to loosen it up when I go to take it loose. It basically applies the same priciple as a regular (lock nut). Hope this helps.

As a general rule of thumb, you'd not want to ever tighten those more than "finger tight".

If part of what you're talking about is the entire mini-UHF connector setup,
like is used on the back of a 5487 SVA, it flops around because Motorola
designed it that way. The chassis connector just sits in a plastic slot inside
the unit.

There's a tool for tightening mini-uhfs that moto ships with some radios such as the XTLs. It's a little springy metal thing shaped sort of like a plastic cable clamp, it slips around the connector and you squeeze the tabs together, gives enough grip to tighten the connector without over-tightening or damaging it. I'm not sure if they can be ordered separately.

If I was to catch an installer smashing a connector oval so it would stay on I'd do the same thing to his... nevermind.

These are MCS2000 800MHz mobiles....

Cable tie the coax to something as close to the connector as you can get. That will minimize vibration.
