Good Day. I have a question about a Motorola MVA (Convertacom) for a MTX9000. I recently got a MTX9000 HT on the 902 Amateur Band. He threw in a used MVA for it. I don’t think he ever had the MVA actually installed. This is a complete MVA with the cradle/charger that has the mini-uhf connector on the cradle and two dip switches. It has the connected interface box and speaker, so this is not the one with the integrated power amplifier. It also has the PAC-RT toggle switch on the top of the cradle/charger unit.

I have installed the system in my vehicle. The multi-colored light on the front of the cradle unit changes from green/yellow/red when the radio is installed. It seems to transmit with the hand mike, but there is no audio through the MVA speaker and it doesn’t appear the HT is connecting to the external antenna.

I have an800Mhz MTS2000 that does the same thing as the MTX9000. Another friend who has a MVA also has the same thing going. I have heard something about this being a RSS version issue. Can anyone shed some light?

Brien - the correct term for the MTS or MTX portable mobile converter unit is MTVA not MVA. I must assume you have the part numbers below.

NTN1322B = Non-band specific basic control unit

NTN1340C = MTVA holder unit

HSN1000B = amplified speaker

Sometimes the molex connector on the speaker does not connect properly and needs to be pushed together very hard in order to properly seat. I have even found some of them to be defective and had to return them to moto to be replaced under warranty. If the connector is seated properly and you still have the no audio problem there must be a problem either in the control unit or holder unit. Also - the holder units can be out of physical alignment with the portable being inserted into the holder(this aligns the accessory pins from radio to holder). There is a circular adjustment doohicky on the side of the holder - insert a screw driver or even a coin will work and make sure its properly adjusted to fit the portable to the holder.

Not sure why things aren't working for the MTS2000 beyond what was just said but on the MTX unit make sure that it has the S101 switch installed. Easiest way to tell is to key up the radio seperate and push in black switch on the side and see if power/receive drops out.

Far as verifying the radios go just hook up an external mic and see if you get tx/rx audio. That's how we used to test those complaints when the MTVA didn't come in.
