There are a number of different models of the MCS2000. The model 1 has an internal
speaker. You may or may not have the accessory cable plugged in. If the radio was
never used with external accessories, then this is not the issue. If it was, then you
need to have the right angle accessory connector plugged into the bottom of the radio.
It will have a jumper from pin 1 to 2. This makes the internal speaker work.
If you have a model 2 or model 3, then you need an external speaker. I would check
to make sure the speaker is working. Normally they have a plug in series with the wires
that you can open and measure with an Ohm meter across both wires. You should
see about 1 to 4 Ohms, depending on how good you meter is. If you don't see this
almost dead short on the wires going to the speaker, it probably opened up on you
and needs to be replaced. Does the yellow busy light come on when a signal is present
and should be heard.
On the TX issue, you need to provide some more details. Is the radio even showing
a display on the channel display? You didn't mention that you could see that the
radio was turned on.
