Subject: ASTRO SABER 3 UHF FAIL 01/82
NJ RADIO NUT wrote:hey gang

I loaded an s rec into a AS3, now im getting fail 01/82
If i load in the whored srec it will work fine, but not in astro mode, it wont receive or tx in astro, i key up and try and listen on my scanner and just get noise that doesnt sound like what i would normally hear from digitial channels in my area (on a non digital scanner), the firmware is R07.70.00
do they make ANALOG only boards, and im probably stuck with one?

Any help please PM me
Most likely is your radio does not have digital firmware. Post both the HOST and DSP and we may be able to help you. Also, you are trying to listen on a non-digital scanner, you really can not tell what it is doing in digital.

And to answer your question there are a ton of non-digital Astro Sabers, there are also ones that were VSLEP and not IMBE. Again post the HOST and DSP and maybe read the Astro Radio Primer here:

Maybe you can solve this issue by reading about what you may have and may not have purchased.

Your fail 01/82 is from a wrong band s-rec (i.e. putting in a VHF s-rec into a UHF radio) or if the s-rec is proper for the right split radio you have, but is way way out of tune so as the PLL/VCO is out of lock. I've seen both instances give a fail 01/82.

When you got the whore s-rec to work (no fail codes), that means you have the right s-rec for your radio's freq cut, so your good using that s-rec. I'd bet your firmware supports digital P-25 IMBE with that whore s-rec that is working for analog. So you should be good to go with P-25.

Most important when loading a radio with a different s-rec, remember you MUST retune the radio is you ever hope to get digital P-25 working. Hopefully you made a backup of the original s-rec. If so, load that original s-rec back to the radio, go into astro tuner, and go through all the settings and write them down on paper all the tuning values for your radio. Now that you have all the original tuning values, load Mr. Whore s-rec back into the radio, and then go back into Astro Tuner and change all the settings/fields back to your original values. If you don't have the original s-rec, then your gonna have to have the radio retuned on a service monitor.

Good luck

I believe this can be caused by the wrong version of lab. You should be using the later leaked version of MTSX Lab, 3.X.

From his PM:
My bad, sorry

the radios HOST is actually an A not a N
i wasnt thinking of looking for the host after i saw the firmware is R07.70.00
i tought anything inthe 07.. is deff digital and not vselp

How hard would it be to change a Host? if possible?

thanks you for your reply and offer to help!!!
Simply you have a Analog board, not a digital board......so no IMBE digital. The DSP of A is definately analog, a N or I is going to be digital.
