GTX 900 programming problem

I have this friend (really! My GTX works fine!) who bought a GTX 900 that was programmed using a hacked version of RSS as near as we can tell that gave it 15 conventional channels instead of the 10 it was supposed to have. The version of RSS we have can't read it. Is there a way to clear out the garbage and program it with a "regular" RSS?

The radio is M11WGD4CB1AN

Thanks!

Steve,

If your M11 GTX is the same model as the messed up one, try dumping in a new
codeplug using the RSS you've been using on yours. The only thing you have to do to the
RSS to get it to work 902/927 is to modify the .MDF file, on both the HT and the
mobile radio. In other words, try to replace the crap that someone put into the
radio with a known, good codeplug. You should end up with an M11 that does
maybe ten channels; I forget the exact number because I replaced my two M11s with a
Spectra that runs 40 watts/10 channels and it's been a while.

Thanks - that's what I was suggesting, but the owner of the radio (actually we have 3 in town with this issue) is afraid he might wind up with a paperweight! Just wanted to be sure that my reasoning was correct. I can and have programmed HT600/MT1000's and Maratracs - never a GTX, so I don't know if the procedure is different or not.

P.S. there was zero 900Mhz activity here (Colorado Springs) a year ago, now we have 2 repeaters up with more on the way, and many hams buying and experimenting with 900 radios as they are so cheap! I bought a GTX mobile with cables, bracket, mic (and hang-up), and an NMO antenna for $100! Fun stuff!
