MTX-900 MT-1000 front cover conversion ?

Can someone tell me if the DTMF generation on a MTX-900 is done within the front cover electronics, or is it done on the main boards in the radio?.

Also, does anyone have a schematic for the MTX /DTMF front, and MT-1000/MDC front that I can obtain..

I have a couple of old MTX's that have the DTMF and I'm trying to determine if I can adapt the MTX front DTMF electronics to work on my MT-1000 by swapping out the MT-1000/MDC spkr/mic flex circuit and modifying it to fit the MTX DTMF front. I would remove all but the DTMF circuit board off of the MTX, and install the guts of the MT-1000 minus the MDC circuit board and jumper the pads to the correct wires if possible. The MTX front has 8 solder pads on the DTMF circuit board and my MT-1000/MDC front has 6 solder pads.
