MTS2000 poor receive

I just received an MTS2000 that I bought on Ebay. I programmed NOAA weather and it does not break squelch. Even when I press "Monitor" all I hear is static. I can't even faintly detect anything other than static. Using another radio, I tested rx and tx and everything worked, but only at a very close distance. I had an antenna attached, the antenna connector is solid, and there's a good connection to the RF board.

Is this a matter of a radio that just needs an alignment, or is there likely something more going on here?

I have a junk HT1000 with a good RF board. Can I swap the RF board with an HT1000 RF board?? If so, what else do I need to do? (alignment?)

Any help with this is greatly appreciated!!

sounds like more Ebay junk.

have you tried TXing to it with another portable or mobile within a few feet? if it isn't totally deaf, it may be a failed RF switch, common failure point, the little metal tab inside breaks or develops a hairline crack. Or could be unit is just in need of alignment. If you have the proper tools (service monitor, test cable, CPS/Tuner, and service manual) you know what to do. As far as swapping RF boards, your MTS will need a full realignment after this procedure. Better left to someone with proper tools and equipment if you want a good working radio.
