Trying to reconfigure a ASII from LAFD/LAPD huge setup of 200+chs in one zone and reconfigure to 16 chs in a zone'

Well once i get down to 32 pers and 2 zone of 16 and have zone selected in menu. I go and write with astro Port ver 9.0 rss and when it down it shows unprogrammed and it only shows zone on menu line. when selected then it dont do anything.

Is there something im overlooking

How many zones were in the radio when you initially read it (one, I'm guessing)? You say you have two zones. Have you tried rotating the channel selector knob to any position to see if it then comes up with a channel?

When you read the radio, part of the information that is sucked down is which zone, and which number channel in the zone, the radio was on at the time. So if you were on Zone 1 of 1, and Channel 132 of 200 odd, and you go to burn it back in even with all your changes, the first thing the radio's going to do is to fire up and try and access Zone 1 Channel 132. If it can't, instead of doing something intelligent like revert to Zone 1 Channel 1, it just sits there, showing only the Zone menu item, and bonks at you.

ok. so i need to manually change to ch 1 using the keypad then try to read radio.

ok. this is weird.

The radio comes up on ch 190 and when i turn selector switch it jumps by 2. If i manually select mode 1 and then change ch's on knob it goes back to the high end.

If i read the radio in DOS 9.0 then write i get error 01/02
I can read and write with no prob lab b03.04

windows says radio and codeplug feature set mismatch. No software shows the DSP so i wonder if this is a radio that had a another record forced into it.

this was a la co fd surplus i purchased off ebay.
Tx/RX fine on ch's

i made a s-rec backup first using mtsx lab and i use it to recover it back to the way i received it.

Whatever the case, it could be that the firmware is just really old. that host and DSP combo would indicate VSELP. Too bad that r0f astro25 primer isn't working anymore.

If I looked at the model number correctly (and quickly), you should have a high split UHF radio. LAFD is an 800MHz deal, not UHF, and hasn't been for quite some time.

Most likely it is/was/hacked LAPD codeplug, pre-IMBE. There are still a few floating around. True LAPD radios should have LAPD engraved on the front.

My guess, and it seems like it, is that you need to have all the OTAR/OTACS information straightened out. Until you do, the whole zone/channel thing will be out of wack. I have a write up about this under the model specific information on the main site here. Make sure that it matches what is on that page.

There are still plenty of radios with the old LA_ROVER codeplug around...but doesn't work since LAPD went IMBE vs VSLEP and realigned their channels.

OK. Need to clairify these are not LAFD. They are LA County Fire Radios. Maybe if someone has a s-rec with the otacs straighten out then i can load it in.

OK. I think some of my issuses where with the otarcs settings. Once i disable the ch knob showed 1-16 and i could read and write with dos 9.5 software.

If I understand correctly you want to have more than 16 channels in a zone in an Astro Saber. To do that, channel selection has to be via the menu and cannot be (or also be) via the selector knob. Rather, that knob has to be dedicated to zone selection or disabled altogether.

Well, that's actually opposite of what he was trying to get at - go from a single zone 200 channel setup to a multi zone setup with 16 channels per zone.

I'm not sure if you're trying to say you cannot use the channel knob on zones with more than 16 channels - this of course isn't correct, you can, but only for channels 1-16 - anything higher and you have to use the CHAN menu item.

no i dont want more than 16 ch's per zone.

I figured it out. It was the Over the air rekey settings that were the problem.

Can not read and write fine with dos ver 9.5
