Hello: Is it possible to use a non-astro saber Convertacom display mic on a Astro convertacom?
If not, is there a specia l AVA display mic?
Thanks, mark

It seems that you can't, for info there are mics for the saber, and system saber as well as the astro saber mobile adapters.

A long time ago, I tried a saber display mic on an AVA with an astro saber inserted- the radio made some funny noises and showed nothing on the mic. However, a saber display mic on an AVA with a regular analog saber1/2/3 worked fine.

An AVA with a late model analog saber will work fine. The saber just has to have the antenna plunger hole by the accessory connector. Matter of fact it says so on the label.
"CAUTION: Inserting the wrong radio may Damage the Adapter. This Adapter works with ASTRO Digital SABER, SABER and Systems SABER radios manufactured on or after September 1, 1994. These radios can be identified by their serial numbers: The 5th character (year) must be "U" or later (V, W, X, Y, or Z). If 5th character is U, the 6th character (month) must be "S" or later (T, U, V, W, X, Y, or Z). Use Adapter ONLY with approved radio models. For radios manufactured prior to this date please contact: Motorola at 1-800-523-4007 (ext. 112) for upgrade details."

And older radios can be (carefully) drilled out to allow room for the plunger pin. I did that on a pre-1994 Systems Saber and it worked in a NTN7227D AVA (with a Saber display mic, no less) just fine.

or find the elusive beast, and have the right firmware radio to go with it.
