A mute XTS2500 serial port interface

Has anyone had problems with the XTS2500 serial port interface? I've a radio that acts like that it doesn't exist at all, for the serial cable that is.

I wonder if there might be a type failure, like a loose cable or something as easy like that. Any ideas if a fixing a dead serial port interface in the radio just might be easier than replacing whole modules from the radio?
