Astro Spectra DSP swap

Post by TWL911 »

Here is what I have: Q split uhf chassis with a DSP board that supports IMBE.

now, my question. Can I purchase a VHF chassis with an analog only DSP, and swap components to create an IMBE VHF radio?

what hardware would need to be changed? and are there any other limitations I should be aware of.

and I am aware of the programming changes that would be required.

Yes. You need to have special secret squirrel software (don't ask) and an srec from an VHF radio matching your target configuration (flashcode, model number, etc).

On the hardware side, you simply have to take out the vocon board from the uhf radio and place it in the vhf radio. Once that's done, drop in the VHF srec and do a full alignment.

Also, does this vhf radio have a purely analog dsp, or does it just have one that is outdated. If it has an outdated DSP that can be remedied by a simple firmware bump.
