trunking, conventional question

Hello,

I saw an ad for a spectra trunking radio. But the ad said it also did talk around.
Here is my question, if the radio is a trunking radio, can it be programmed for conventional frequencies?

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you.

There are a number of Spectra radios out there. The trunking version of them come in 3 flavors in general. The
original Spectra will do only analog trunking and conventional. The Astro Spectra will do analog and digital
trunking as well as conventional. The Astro Spectra Plus will also do analog and digital trunking as well as the
conventional. It is not as user friendly as it can't be made to operate in the PTT affiliation mode. You only get
10 scan channels for any zone on the Astro and Astro Plus. Some of the Astro series radios only come in a
128 channel or mode operation. Others have the ability to go to 256 modes or channels. Depends on the flash.

Talk around is only used in the conventional mode on repeater pairs. It allows the radio to receive and
transmit on the repeater output channel.

In conventional both the Astro Spectra and Astro Spectra Plus can scan 15+1 channels at a time (15 in the list, plus the selected channel).

In trunking, with newer firmware, the Astro Spectra Plus will also scan 15+1 talkgroups, and with RSS, the Astro Spectra can be hacked to scan 15+1 talkgroups as well. No big secret.
