Hello fellow Batlabbers, we have a customer wanting to get a quote on a Astro conventional voting system. Can anyone give me an idea of what we would need? I'm trying to determine whether we can quote this, or we need Motorola to do it. We maintain part of a large p25 trunking system, but we have no conventional. I've gathered we would need the following:
astrotac 3000 comparitor
astro capable a quantar tx
astro capable quantar rx for each site
What would we need to get the audio from the comparitor to the Gold Elite? A DIU?
What would we need to get the rx back to comparitor? Tensr and t1's?

If anybody has one of these systems, I would appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks

Are you talking about a conventional system whereas its one freq on the output and multiple receiving sites (typical), or multiple sites tx'ing on multiple freq's?

The reason why I ask, is that there are several systems that do the latter (KY or one of those southern states have this)...where the field radios do their own "voting" for the best site, and is a flashport option in the astro radio's (convetional voting scan).

No, not voting scan, this would be normal voting, we would be replacing a uhf spectra-tac voting system. One repeater tx freq and one repeater rx freq with multiple rx sites, and maybe an upgrade to simulcast at a later date.

astro capable quantar rx for each site: YES or some AstroTAC 3000 recievers in your RF band. (NLA but available used). Must be V.24 capable and flashed up for IMBE
What would we need to get the audio from the comparitor to the Gold Elite? A DIU? (Yes, also NLA or soon to be, better grab one soon!) You will also need an ACIM board for your CEB. I'd also nearly count on at least some software and firmware upgrades for the CEB as well, although it is possible not to require it.
What would we need to get the rx back to comparitor? Tensr and t1's? You'll need channel banks optioned w/ 1 CPU card, 1 T1E1 card, and 1 SRU card in each at a minimum. You would be better off with a v.24 astro modem if this is a one RF channel voted system. But, Astro Modems are also due to go NLA soon or have already.

Hopefully this conventional is or will be co-located at some of the P25 sites, so you can utlize some existing site links and/or channel banks. If not, this will prove to be a pricey project. The site links alone will be a substantial monthly cost, especially if you have to go with a T1.

I would just about count on having to involve your local Motorola team in the project, especially if a CEB upgrade is involved, and anything requiring upgrades to exisiting quantars, etc.

Lets say you want a two site system

Master

Quantar IMBE UHF
V.24 modem
Astro-tac Comparator w/ a two port card
Data quality audio circuit X 2 to the two other sites

Rcvr site 1

Astro-tac rcvr IMBE UHF w/ V.24 modem
Data quality audio circuit from site to master

Rcvr site 2
Astro-tac rcvr IMBE UHF w/ V.24 modem
Data quality audio circuit from site to master

The comparator at the master site needs the 2 port card to work with the two sites. The V.24 modem in the comparator is for the wireline astro control.

If you are wanting to interface this to a console then you will need either the DIU or the MCC5500 console.

The DIU can be configured without the ACIM interface to work with conventional tone control.
You can program it for 1950 and it will work with any analog tone deskset.
