Have a VSELP A/S3 that has started giving me intermittent low battery alerts. I've got a new NiMH battery and an older Nicd that still works for a few hours, and with either battery it randomly happens. I don't have a variable power supply to check with, though I could build a simple 7.2v circuit via LM317 with a pot for troubleshooting purposes. Any help appreciated.

Hopefully I found the cause. I tried moving the battery/baseplate but it didn't move. BUT, the screws were loose so I tightened them up the best I could. The battery slides on much, much tighter than before and after 5 minutes I'm not getting any low battery alerts now, Tx nor Rx. Hopefully that was it. FWIW, the batteries are from Batteryzone. If the alerts come back I'll drop another post. Thanks.

That's your problem, Batteryzone! They need to throw in the towel and give up. I've purchased batteries from these guys and have had nothing but trouble with all of them. The battery contacts on their XTS batteries were receded a bit to low for the contacts on the radio. Once you turn the radio on you get a low battery warning.

I purchased batteries from MULTIPLIER and have had no problems what so ever. Batteryzone is nothing but trouble for the high end Motorola radios. I do not recommend their battery to anyone. Don't waste your Money.

Well, I have to admit I've bought about 10 batteries from Batteryzone and haven't had any problems with any. Couple for the A/S, couple for Jedi series, and one for an Ericsson MRK. I appreciate your comments about them. Maybe I'm just lucky for once.

The cause -was- the battery plate screws being loose. Tightened them up and now, about 8 hours later, I haven't had one false low-battery alert on this A/S. Everything's 5-by-5 again.

We tried Battery Zone Saber batteries. Now when a radio comes in with a Battery Zone battery on it we just throw it away. Many many of them have recessed contacts that barely make connection and we have seen some with bad intermittent spot welds.

We have had such bad luck with them that now we only buy OEM batteries. Now we mostly have XTS5000s and use Impress batteries and chargers.

Well, I admit being only 20 minutes away has a bit to do with me using Batteryzone. If I have a problem, which I haven't yet, I'll drive right over and demand a replacement. FWIW, I actually bought batteries from Multiplier years ago and had problems with them. A couple of them fit loosely on our HT1000's and more than a few had bad cells straight from the factory. That made me look elsewhere and discovered Batteryzone. I'm not associated with them, and if they weren't local I'd probably look for another supplier. BTW, the A/S was in use all day today and never got a low-battery alert or any other problems. Tightening up those plate screws did the trick. Cheers!
