MTX 8250 Fail 00/81

Post by kb8zgl »

I have a nearly brand new MTX 8250 I was given that immediately upon turning it on says "Fail 00/81". I have never worked on an MTX 8250 before. Is there anything I can do to figure out why this radio is bricked? Only way to shut it off is to pull the battery.

Any web articles or ideas would be VERY HELPFUL to this 8250 n00b.

Further checking of the radio shows it starts with Fail 01/81 and then beeps and the "L comes on and it switches to 00/81.

I assume this means that the FlashROM is failing checksum. Can I fix this by programming or is it basically shot?

If it shot... can I swap the guts of an MTX850 into the case to get a full display and keypad MTX850?

What if I don't have the archive file? Can I get an archive somehow for an 8250?

The radio will read the config and program the config it appears.
