Maxtrac with no receive

Post by Waddster »

I have a Maxtrac with no receive. It transmits but it has no receive at all. Anyone else ever had this problem as I'm new to this?

Do you have the audio jumper on the rear connector?

You need to jumper pins 15 & 16 together to get audio from the front speaker.

This image here will give you an idea of which pins to jumper (as you're looking at the back of the radio)

All the jumpers are in-place. The radio beeps when powered up and it transmits great but it's deaf as a post on receive. It was set for CS so there's no CTCSS and the programming RX & TX are correct. I don't think there's anything in the RSS that turns off the receive?

If you do a search here this has been discussed before.
Try a search on "receive maxtrac crystal"

A common problem is the 44.645 xtal. They had a batch from a supplier that corrode.

Put a receiver on that freq next to the radio. Tune up and down a little too, sometimes the they drift, but usually fail completely. You should be able to receive it
Better yet, transmit on that freq with a HT near the radio, then transmit a signal on the programmed rx freq, it will come to life if that is it.

Thanks for the information. I have some part Maxtrac radios and found the xtal in them. As I have very limited test equiptment, would I have to completly re-adjust the radios receiver after xtal replacement?

Not if you only change the second local oscillator crystal.
