Hi guys,

Heres what I'd like to accomplish.

I would like to learn a better understanding of how programming status codes work and whats needed to decode the message on to a computer dispatch system.

I only want something simple like.

On the radio display

code: 111 - RTB
code: 112 - Arrived
code: 113 - on route

so the first two number are the teams callsign and the last digit would be the status idenifer

on the computer screen would display

Team 1.1 Arrived at station @ 1400hrs

I would also like to be able to work this on the maxons but with only one status code

117 - At station

computer screen

Team 1.1 Arrived at station @ 1400hrs

I've seen this sort of set up before but the radios that where being used where phillips simoco radios.

Could someone point me in the right direction of what type of equipment is needed and the type of radio software needed.

If you already have GM380 mobiles (which are easily capable of what you're asking) i would suggest buying some GP360 or GP380 handhelds to match.

These are easily set up with individual id's for each radio, and preset status messages, and you can do some wonderful systems with these radios.
Everytime a user speaks you could have it show his radio id (name) on the display of your radio, and you can have it so he just presses one button to send a default message simply by assigning a telegram message to one of the three additional side buttons.
You can set it to display a name rather than a radio id number, so if John Smith has radio 127, rather than showing on the receiving radio screen as "127" it could say "John Smith 127" etc etc

I have my doubts with your Maxon equipment as to whether you will achieve what your aiming for, regardless of how simple you try and keep it.
You may be able to use a 5tone string sent from a maxon handheld to display as a predefined message providing the Maxon is capable of selcall/5tone but you may struggle to set them to send more than one string. My memory of the SL55 is very vague, and i keep picturing a very basic brick-like model with very few buttons and no display, available in black or navy blue.

Anyone else out there able to comment or suggest?
