I forgot to backup the codeplug on a maxtrac and the serial number on the heatsink is not the correct one. Is the radoi hosed or is there a way to find it else where?
Thanks, Kurt

What do you mean it is wrong?
One usually uses the serial # on the sticker as the serial number.
You can read the radio with a computer to see what it says.
You can blank and initialize the radio and set things to match.

IIRC Maxtracs will sometimes also have a sticker on the logic board shield with the serial number.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I am converting a 800 maxtrac to 902 receive. I erased the codeplug and forgot the back it up, now when I go to program a new code plug to the radio is says the serial number does not match the radio. I'm guessing the PA was replaced and the serial number is wrong for the logic board. I'm new to programming Motorola equipment, i'm definitely going to backup every code plug for now on.

If you blanked the logic board and are re-initializing the radio as a different model, for example changing a trunked radio to conventional for receiver use, the radio really has no way to know what serial number it used to have.
The issue is that you must enter a serial number into the RSS when you re-initialize the radio. Some versions of the RSS look at the APC part of the serial number [the first three digits] - if that doesn't match the radio model you are trying to create - then you get that error message. A saved codeplug won't help you here at all.
What you need to do is put the correct APC in the serial number field. For example a conventional Maxtrac might have a serial number of 428ABC1234.

XMO,
Is Monty's blanking and re-initializing procedure still correct?
Maybe someone can link to it for this post.

Scott and Bob have a very complete procedure published on repeaterbuilder.com at:
