Being both a a ham operator (N9CSA) for a long time, as well as a certified radio tech for 30+ years (mostly "vintage" mobiles, and not much Moto HT experience), I do have a "sub-question" to the original inquery:

I own about 2 dozen Moto Public Safety mic (NMN5244B with a 138-160 MHz VHF) which I have picked up over the years and have refurbished to "looks like brand new" and working to factory specs.

I have a client (local PD officer) who wants to purchase one of these VHF PS mics and use it on his auxillary UHF JT1000 in his cruiser. The UHF JT1000 is not department issued, but is approved for his use while on duty. He does not want to buy the PS Spkr Mic from the local Moto dealer for the usual $197.43 (needless to say)! I sell my refurbed PS units for between $60-$80.

And, no, I am NOT advertising these units here for sale.

I know Moto uses high quality antenna cable/shielding inside the non-coiled cord, but I just need to make sure that I will be able to swap the antennas, or will I have to change the mica capacitor which is either inside the mic. unit or the radio itself to keep the impedance correct for proper TX/RX on the 465 thru 473 MHz band area.

The model number of the unit you're talking about is 6244, not 5244.
Nowhere in their data sheet for the HT/JT1000 does Motorola make any distinction between
using this speaker/microphone for VHF vs. UHF radios, so I would just go ahead
and use the unit on UHF. I've done the same thing in reverse with a TNC stubby for VHF
on a Saber VHF radio for years and it works fine.

Pricewise you can buy a 6244 from My Radio Mall for about $120.00, so if your
friend wants a new unit he should shop around online.

I agree with Tom, The jedi speaker mics are actually designed for UHF radio's I have used VHF antenna's on PS mics on Jedi, saber and XTS radios, never had a problem.

the VHF Visar antennas work and look good on the PS mikes. They are available in three splits. Never had a problem swapping antennas on the Jedi PSM's, even the long wideband UHF whip works well and doesn't look too bad either.
