Will this XTS2500 do Type II Analog Trunking???

Will this XTS2500 do Type II Analog Trunking???

Post by POVoutfitters »

I finally got around to attempting to setup my newly acquired 800MHz XTS2500.

In working with the codeplug in CPS 12, I am unable to select a trunking system type OTHER than Astro25.

I purchased this radio to work with the Analog type II system in my area, and would therefore not have to change radios once the system transitions to Astro.

The XTS2500's flashcode is
500008-00148C-5

Code: Select all

Decoding Flashcode: 500008-00148C-5
Q806 ASTRO Digital Operation
H14 Enhanced Digital ID Display
H38 SMARTZONE Systems Operation
Q947 APCO Packet Data Interface
Q173 SMARTZONE OMNILINK Multizone Operation
Q361 ASTRO 25 9600 Baud Trunking
Q667 ADP Encryption Software DSP Based Only
Q574 9600 Baud Trunking
Decoded by akardam.net FC Decoder
I've setup and programmed a lot of MTSX radios, and conventional V/U XTS radios. However, this is my first XTS trunked radio.
Is the radio currently capable of Analog type II trunking?
If not, what is the flash I would need? (cost of downgraded flash?)
Would I do better to continue using an MTSX radio and sell this XTS

Thanks,
Rob

No, its not capable as it is now. You need Q883 (9600/3600 interoperability). It's $500 list. That will give you capability all the way down to Smartnet and Smartzone.

As I can see this radio have SmartZone support (H38).

Thus it is impossible to create SmartZone system? :o

How to explain it?

P.S.
I understand that you need SmartNet (not SmartZone), but I am interested in SmartZone availability in radios like yours (H38 installed, but no Q883). I hopes that any radio with H38 option must allow SmartZone operation regardless of Q883 (9600/3600 interoperability) option.

Check the personality that is assoicated with the trunked system, most likely set to ASTRO25, which doesn't let you go back and change it in the trs screen. I had this happen on another astro25 radio.

Now, if you have an older XTS2500, you may be out of luck. I am not up on the 2500, but my understanding is the older firmware releases it was one or the other, with the more current releases will support both..if optioned correctly.

It would be nice, but it wont, however. An XTS2500 that is optioned with H38 and Astro25 trunking will only work on a 9600 system. When you go to the trunked system screen, youre limited to Astro25, and the CPS will not allow you to select Type II from the dropdown box for a 3600 baud SZ/SN system unless you have Q883. This applies to XTS2500 only.

The backwards compatible methodology we know from other product lines just doesn't work here. So, make sure you KNOW the 2500 your buying has what you need.

PJ is correct. Q883 is only compatible with later DSP/HOST versions (starting somewhere around 4.8 or 5). Anything earlier (mostly 4 meg radios) your are definately limited to one or the other.

For the record, even 4meg radios can be upgraded to Host R09 which should support Q883 just fine.

Yes a 4meg 2500 will certainly take q883, and do both.
