CDM1550 Remote Mount Programming Problems

Hello All,

I am trying to program a CDM1550 Remote Mount radio, I have tried using both a RIB and Non-RIB Programming cable and have RSS version R06.01.00 on my computer. When the radio is not on motorola RSS recognizes this so I know the connection is gettting from the radio to the cable and to the computer however as soon as I turn the radio on I get a series of two error messages. The first reads, “Unsupported Model” and the second one “application does not support reading this file”. Can someone please help me - I am a volunteer EMT and need my mobile to work inorder to be able to receive jobs and such.

Please help - Thanks.

-Jeremy

THere are reports of problems programming remote mount CDMs through the mic jack. Try either using the programming cable that plugs into the rear accessory connector, or put the radio back together as a one-piece temporarily and program it that way.

Jack,

I typically plug into the jack at the "brains" to the radio where the cable comes out to plug into the display screen and I get those error messages. Today I attempted downloading a codeplug from a different CDM radio I was able to download the codeplug from and I recieved this message "80040154: couldnt createInstance on the device after getting UUID" - Is there another port besides that one I should try - I'm up for trying anything and everything.

I have read and wrote codeplugs to these units dont know if I got lucky or not, but I turned the radio on then unplugged the cable from the brain to the head and plugged the program cable into the brain and it worked fine

Thats exactly what I'm doing - what version of RSS are you using I am running R06.01.00 could that be the issue??

Holy obsolescence batman... sorry, I didn't catch that in your first post.

Current version of CPS is R06.10.02, 6.01 is really old... unless the radio is old and has never been programmed with newer CPS it's probably not going to work.

Is there anyway to make an older version of CPS work?? Would that be why I'm getting the error messages I'm getting?

what is the firmware version in your radio, that will tell you if you need new cps?

5.06 isn't that old so you can get away with the older versions but if you update your cps you will find new features in your radio will work now if your firmware was up around 5.12 or 5.13 you would have to have the latest cps.

i stated the firmware in your radio isn't that old but it is before the cutoff to need the newest cps. as stated above, your cps is ancient, it's about 10 years old so the combination of that and that you may need to put the head back on the radio who knows until you start ruling out potential problems? call motorola and update your cps and put the head back on the radio like motorola says to do or program it from the rear connector and there's no reason it shouldn't work.

5.07.02 is current version for Mobiles.

5.06.04 was released Nov 2007. Usually about $25-45 from your local dealer will upgrade you.

There are numerous problems noted when trying to program a CDM in the remote mount config. Motorola's suggested fix is to restore the radio to a dash mount config, program it and then reconfig back to remote mount.

Motorola does NOT even mention programming the radio from the remote connector on the conversion kit. You will NEED to have the radio in a dash mount config and use the ribless (MOTOROLA) programming cable to do the firmware upgrade.

Any other config risks bricking the radio since the last few revisions to the firmware.

I have been upgrading some newer CDMs recently and the rear cable does NOT support flash upgrades anymore.

i updated 4 on friday from the rear connector, it works perfect, i've done over 1,000 in the past couple years and never lose one from the rear connector. if you upgrade it from the rear connector you will not have to put the head back on it.

Okay I am kind of new to this so I'm sorry if this sounds stupid - are you saying to try using the Ethernet style plug located on the "brains" of the radio or is there another plug that I should use. I understand the best way is to put the entire radio back in one piece but if there is a way to avoid that I'd rather avoid it.

yes, program the radio from the 20 pin connector on the back of the radio and you will not have to put it back togather.

I tried to flash a remote mount CDM from the 20pin the other day and couldn't get it to enter boot strap. It just kept turning off and on normally. Switch was on to B. All OEM equipment.

i don't know what to tell you about your situation without seeing your setup. are you using all oem cables and flash adaptor?

I'm using all OEM cables and adapters for the exception of a PCMCIA to Serial card. The card reads and write with no issues so I don't suspect it's that. The radio is in a remote configuration and still installed in the vehicle.

Try the switch on the flash adapter in the 'A' position. Don't ask me why, but was told this would work from someone at "M". Seems that nothing works as advertised in M country...

So if B grounds the boot pin... what does A do?
