More info would be needed to determine the cause. Does the unit have an actual PA, or are you just refering to the charging unit? Some had PA's, some didn't. Then, some of the symptoms would be helpful in determining a cause of death. What band is the amp, what band are the radio and antenna(on the roof)? Did you check refleced power on the antenna etc., etc., etc.... you get the idea.

Hello :
Hopfully i wont add a lot of confusion on this.
Kb9rre originaly asked me about this in an email and i was sorta confused a bit also.
Kb9rre = Please corect me on anything thats not right with the set up you tried for clarification.
But if i got it right - heres what i believe he did.
He has a MTVA that the pa is defective.
It aparently has conections on it that allow a Maxtrac or GM300 pa to be added.
I think but NOT certain = That it was a maxtrac 25 watt pa in the 438 to 470 split - Again im not certain that it was .
Aparently he hooked it up and it didnt work for long.
My qestion im wondering - Can you tx 4 watts from the MTVA setup into a maxtrac pa as the exciter and be ok or is the 4 watts too much to start with ?
What is the exciter wattage on a 25 watt maxtrac from the rf bd to the pa ?
Thank you

Ok the easiest way to figure out what you have is...... does the unit have a RF in and a RF out, and, are there 2 power connectors on the unit? Let's start there, and figure out what you have.

The exciter schematic says +16 DBM 50 Ohms.
