Commander II Plus RSM (HMN4080A)

I recently ordered a new HMN4080A commander mic (GPS) from a local shop, and I got a RMN5088B in its place. I called in to report that I didn’t get the right part, they stated that the HMN4080A was obsolete, and that the RMN5088B was its replacement.

Does anyone know about this?

Thanks!

-Daniel

I believe they had some problems with the "A" revision Mic's and there was a recall issued. I don't have the particulars on it, but I recall reading or hearing something to that effect. (I think it may not have worked with UHF radios or something nutty like that).

All it should be is another "revision" of the speaker mic and you should not notice a difference for the most part.

One of the main features I was going to use was the GPS. I have an XTS5000R VHF.

The letter on the end of any motorola part number that is constructed as AAA####A (where A is an alphabetical character, and # is a numerical character) the last letter usually denotes the revision.

This means that they changed something between A and B revisions that is probably not really material to the average consumer or user of the product.

If that's the PN for a GPS mic, then you got a GPS mic. They wouldn't take the GPS *OUT* on the B revision, but then again, this is motorola.

(Also, please only post your request for assistance ONCE and in only ONE forum. Your other request was removed.)

"and I got a RMN5088B in its place"

RMN5088 is not a GPS mic.
HMN4080 is a GPS mic.

The reason for the posting is my enquiry to see if anyone has had any problems with the GPS mic attached to a XTS5000 VHF. If it works well, the HMN4080, I'm going to try other means than direct from a dealer. I didn't say that the GPS technology was removed from any mic.

The reason I posted in both forums was that this radio pertained to both, and I wanted persons that visit maybe only a specific forum to see it. Thanks anyway.

OK - I missed the R and the 5 - it looked the same on first read.

I have had no problem using a GPS mic attached to any of my 5000's - be it both UHF bands or VHF.

It's in the rules here that you don't post your topic in more than one forum. It's actually pretty standard across most internet forums that this is a rule. If your unsure or have questions, feel free to read through the FAQ / Rules forum, and they will help clearly explain what is and is not allowed. Should you have questions beyond that - feel free to reach out to an Administrator or Moderator. That's what we are here for.

You got the wrong mic. RMN5088 is not a GPS Mic. HMN4080 is the correct part number for the GPS Mic.

They state that they are working on a fix or something to that nature. They stated that they would let me know back. I'm definately returning the 5088, if for any reason the difference in price. I'll repost when I get a strait answer to let everyone know. Thanks everyone for the help.

My HMN4080A came in yesterday. The dealer brought it by the fire house for me. It works great, but I still don't know what the recall was about. I'm all good though. The first fix came in after about 30 seconds, with all the rest almost instantly. Messed with it in the house, and although not that reliable inside, it gave me coordinates inside. Thanks for everyones help.
