Astro Spectra problem

Post by Kenneth Jensen »

I hope some of the people here who knows a lot about Astro Spectras can help me out here - the one I have has an problem when recieving an analog DES-XL signal - the sound is much more interrupted than it is on my older spectra A7´s - no matter what radio is transmitting to it - but the transmitted signal from the Astro Spectra is just fine (in digital IMBE no problems at all) - but when it recieves an analog plain DES signal (no XL) the sound is fine - this is very strange to me. it is an W7 VHF - flash 580001-001A40-9 - host 11.14 - DSP 8.xx - secure module is DES-XL/OFB UCM v3.55. I know it maybe a little error in programming. In the programming I have not activated any of the audio gain options - but if I see right theese only are for the tx signal. I hope someone can help me

What radios do you own?: X9000 thru APX

In CPS, go to the audio gain section, checkmark all three boxes, leave the gain at 0, and under total gain have a value of +6 and see of that helps.

Hi PJ - I just tryed it - it certanly improved the sound - but still there is some noise when the person tx´ing to it is saying something - I have not tryed to change the value from 6 - the type I have set to "AGC" - is that right - and do you have any more tricks that I could try?
Best Regards
Ken.

Any chance you can upload an audio clip somewhere so we can hear it. Any ANALOG Secure XL transmission sounds like cr*p. I have been told non XL sounds much than XL. In digital any secure sounds like normal voice.

My guess is your radio is acting normally.

No - I can not upload any sound. I have spectra a7 also - and you are right - analog DES-XL sounds like c..p compared to astro - but if I still want to use the a7´s I have to run analog primary - the secure voice sound in the a7´s is much better than the one in the astro spectra. Actually I just tryed a funny thing with my XTS5000 - it had an similar problem - only it was not in rx - but tx (the sound heard at the person in the other end) - I found out that "noise compression" was activated - as soon as I deactivated it - the problem was gone - therefor I think it is just a little setting somewhere - I just want to hear some wise people who knows a lot more about this come with their experiences - maybe I am not the only one who have tryed this. Could it be an idea to change the value from 6 - or the "AGC" setting - or should it be where it is now?

I just fixed the problem my self!! I just want to pass it on in case sombody else have the same problem - after I deactivated "proper codedetect" the rx sound was clear again (as clear as analog securenet can get...) Does anybody have a idea to why this?? Normally it should not have any effect as long as the key is the right one.

"Proper code detect" or "Proper code enhancer?" I could see the latter affecting receive audio quality, but not the former.
