Is anyone using the Motorola XPR8300 repeater on the VHF band in analog mode? If so have you experienced any problems with the unit? Would you recommend this unit for general/light repeater use?

Are they still releasing frequent firmware updates or has the product somewhat stabilized?

Motorola's online data sheet says the unit is designed for
continuous duty.

Is there a better alternative from the Motorola product line? 100% continuous duty is not required, but reliability and longevity are key factors. Will be used with approximately 40 mobile/portable units in a structurally dense environment.

We have a customer using the VHF unit in analog mode with no issues. It replaced a 20-year old MSR2000 and the customer is perfectly happy with range & sound. As far as reliability & longevity, only time will tell, since the units have been out less than a year. Firmware updates are still being put out, but they are pre-planned release dates with mainly feature upgrades, although any known bug fixes are also rolled into these releases. Motorola doesn't offer much else in this price range, maybe the CDR700. Next step up is the MTR2000, which while certainly a proven reliable model, is many times the price point of the XPR. If you're open to other manufacturers, the Kenwood TK750 is a fine repeater for your price range.

I have heard that the Tait repeater is very impressive. Tough to get someone from the company to answer questions though.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a duplexer with a minimum frequency spacing of 3MHz for this repeater? So far I have received suggestions for a Celwave 5085-3 and an EMR 64536, rack-mount would be preferable (the EMR is,) but are there better options out there that I should be aware of at this price point?

I don't know what your price range is, but we nearly always use Sinclair product, the Q2330 for your purposes.
