guys, i need someone who is reasonable to take a look at my 2001/d.
i think there is an intermittent problem with the attenuator (i.e. the troublesome rotary knob one)
plus, i'd like a good grooming done.
sure - i could send it to cardinal, etc... but i'd like to stay in the couple hundred bux range if possible... especially if nothing requires replacement.
any takers?
doug

My two bits worth:
I guess it depends on what the problem is with the attenuator.
Does the attenuation display jump around, or does the actual input/output power?
If it is a matter of the display the problem may be the wafer switch on the front of the attenuator, or a plug that has come loose, or an injured ribbon cable.
If it is the attenuator the problem may be a poor contact if you are lucky, or a broken switch leaf, or damaged attenuator element. In that case you have a real problem: Parts have NEVER been available outside of the factory for the attenuator.
Yes, I have repaired them, but I am also a watchmaker, not to mention that I was instructed at the main test equipment depot in Schaumburg. There are lots of plungers, as well as springs, so be very careful should you decide to open it up.
By the way, It took me 5 to 8 hours (or more if I had to consult with Dave Perso at test equipment) to completely clean/repair/calibrate one of these. I replace some of the Red LEDs with green and orange lamps for power, as well as some other functions. Too much bright red lights, the users wanted the change.
Not to mention straightening, cleaning, painting, as well as replacing missing feet, knobs, damaged connectors, etc.
Should you wish to drop by with your unit next time you are in Honolulu I would be glad to look at it for you.

I need the owners/users manual for the R2001/D. A service manual for the r2008/D would be nice also.
Do you have (CD ok)?

Nick:
I do not have the CD, however, I do have a spare manual that I could possibly loan you.
The 2008 is in the same very thick and expensive manual. Every option is included, except the schematic for the latest processor board is not in existence. The latest manual only has the board lay out, Dave Perso, Schaumburg Depot manager, (DPJ126) (I think that is his number) gave me the pages from his depot book, but it was the same as mine. I also got the last exchange board from Test equipment.
I was the Motorola Western Pacific Test equipment depot manager in those days.
I also have many notes, if you have a specific question perhaps I could scan the pages for you.
