I have a large lot of 800 Mhz Motorola Spectras coming in in the next month. The municipality that has them is required to de-program them. Now I'm not a technician but I know if it's done wrong the radio becomes a big brick. I warned them about this and they said don't worry about it. Well they are going to start doing the de-programming in a couple of days. Interestingly enough they called me and asked me what they needed to do not to destroy the radios. Apparently they weren't as sure as they thought. Unfortunately not being a technician I don't know either. So I thought I check with the superior technical minds on Batlabs. Is there anyone that can tell me what to tell them so I don't get a truck load of scrap metal? I would appreciate any help.

as long as they just remove the trunking personalities and delete the programming data, there should not be a problem. The radio will still have one trunked system and personality, it's best to delete the system key if possible, or at least replace the control channels with something useless (like NPSPAC) where it won't possibly try and affiliate.

Then save the one bare codeplug and clone it into all the radios.

That would be the best way.

In fact, don't even put that channel in...just do something like 851.1000 receive only, with a simple alpha tag (Chan 1).

At least the radio won't tx until programmed properly by the new owner.

The bigger issue, is you getting to swap out cables and and doing each and every one. Thats going to take some time and boredom will set in quick!

Do this:
1.) Read one radio.
2.) From the main Spectra RSS menu, go F4 --> F4 --> F8 --> F4. Write down how many personalities you have and what systems they are referenced to.
3.) Hit F10 to exit, then F3 - Mode List. Write down how many modes you have in the #1 personality only.
4.) Hit F10 to exit, then F8 - ADD/DELETE Personality and Trunking Mode.
5.) Use the up-down arrows to select "Delete Pers", then delete all of the personalities in the radio down to the first one - start with the highest-numbered personality you have and work your way down. When it prompts you to delete systems along with personalities (if the radio has more than one system in it), do so. This should leave you with one system and one personality.
6.) Use the up-down arrows to select "DELETE MODE", then delete all of the modes in the first personality down to the first one. Again, start with the highest and work your way down. This will leave you with one mode in one personality assigned to one system.
7.) Use the up-down arrows to select "ADD PERS." Enter 02 for the personality, 01 for the system, and 00 as the personality to copy from. Hit F8.
8.) Use the up-down arrows to select "ADD MODE." Insert after mode 001, leave the name as default, enter NEW as the mode to copy from, and 02 as the personality to add it in. Hit F8.
9.) Delete the #1 mode and the #1 personality using the above-described steps. This will leave you with a factory-default mode in a factory-default personality assigned to the first system in the radio. Unfortunately, you can't create a new blank system without Spectra LAB or a legit system key, nor can you remove the system control channels without a system key matching the ID of the #1 system. But this will remove everything else related to the trunking programming of the radio and leave you with factory defaults.

Also, if the model numbers of all of the radios are the same, you can use the clone option to clone this codeplug into all of them.
