I have a 800mhz spectra works great except for a "POP" that occurs at the end of a transmission and after each button is pressed. I have tried different speakers, power supplies and ground, however it is still occuring. I have read alot about the caps going bad. Is there a CAP on the audio side that might be causing this sound???

Any help is appriciated...

Sounds like the classic cap problem the Spectras are plagued with.

Give Will a PM here, he's right good at fixing them.

Yep, thats exactly what causes the sound. Get the caps changed now before they do more damage.

There are up to 5 caps that go bad and can cause the POP in the speaker.

The audio amplifier IC can also be bad from a shorted speaker lead, or from bad capacitors.

If the audio power amp IC needs replacing, I have some new ones in stock.

Just a note here, we do not use electrolytic capacitors in that application for replacement.

I replaced all my electrolytics with tantalums. No more leaks ever.

There's a SNAP, a CRACKLE, A POP and a host of
other unhappy sounds including a nice normal
audio on power up only to sharply drop to a
distorted diminishing whine.

There can also be a very unpleasant odor
which you can smell upon opening the upper
or lower lids of the Spectra. It is a rancid
odor which suggests that damage has
already been done.

Will does a great job replacing the
caps and , where possible, in reparing
the damaged traces or other surfaces
upon which the corrosive discharge falls.
