Band change for Saber 2

I've got a UHF Securenet Saber 2 that I'd like to convert to VHF with the RF modules from a VHF Saber 1. The reason that I want to do this is to have scan capability in a VHF radio which I don't believe can be done with a Saber 1. Does anyone know if this can be done and if so are there are precautions.

Thanks,

Is the Saber 1 a Securenet Saber? If so you could probably just swap the front shields and cases from the two radios and program a Saber 2 VHF personality into it using the "Create Personality" feature. You'd have to make sure to select the appropriate bandsplit and power level for the radio and BEFORE you do anything write down the tuning values for the VHF and UHF Saber as you will need these to align the radios properly after making the swaps. If you do not have a Secure Saber 1 you might be able to swap the RF modules although you would still need to write down the tuning values and use them to realign the radios after the swap is done. My two cents.

It can be done but not the way that you want to. The VHF and UHF models use different modules AND different circuit boards. You can NOT take VHF modules and plug them into a UHF model. However, IF your Saber 1 has secure capability, you can remove the display board from the Saber 2 and install it in the Saber 1. Then you have to reprogram the Saber 1 to reflect the VHF Saber 2 model number and options. Personally, I would give it a Saber 3 model number and options and put it into the Saber 2 case.
