Another MTX9250 question

Post by John G »

The literature says this radio is capable of 160 channels trunked and conventional combined. It already had 1 trunked system with 12 talk groups in it. I cannot get but 49 conventional channels. Does the trunked stuff take up more than one channel per trunk group? I can't remove any of the trunked stuff to see if that helps since I don't have a system key. I tried to make one using the information on Batlabs, but I gues that was for a different radio. Didn't work. Any ideas why I can't have more conventional channels? You may want to know why I want so many 900 conventional channels. I had the idea of putting all 80 repeater outputs between 927 and 928 in a zone so I could scan/tune around. Also wanted all the repeaters in nearby states in there too.
Thanks

An MTX9250 can be programmed with only 49 conventional personalities. No matter how hard you try, you cannot exceed that number. Trunking is entirely different than conventional personalities.

Ah so! I wish Motorola had been a little more explicit when they said 160 channels combined conventional/trunked. I will have to check, but I don't believe the TK481 has this limitation. Looks like the '9250 might just end up back on eBay. Thanks for clearing that up.

Yea, it is, but its typical of /\/\ lower tier radios. (1250LS, 1225LS comes to mind).

They are deisgned to be a trunked radio, with limited conventional. One of the largest users of these radios I've seen (3,000) only had TWO conventional talkarounds programmed, and a few hundred talkgroups.

I wonder of this 49 mode limitation is in the spec sheet. Doubtful.
