Public Safety Mic Problem

I have two different PS Mics that I have used or at least tried to use on a couple of different radios (MTS2000). It appears that the radios are not using the antenna on the PS Mic. I tried removing the antenna from the radio and I do not get any reception. I put the antenna back on the radio and I get reception.

Is there something in the programming that I am missing?

Other than what I have done with removing the antenna from the radio is there any way to trouble shoot these mics?

Thanks,
Steve

1st thing that comes to mind is the radios RF switch, on the acc'y connector it's that round hole and the plunger is pretty much held in
by friction, pretty much a weak link. That needs to push in when the speaker mic is connected to accomplish the antenna switch over.

and in some cases, the RF switch isn't there (MTX8000/9000) or if someone board swapped a 2 channel HT1000 RF board.

the switches are crap, there is a small gold plated contact that is around an insulator, it is very fragile and they tend to develop hair line cracks in the contacts.

I'd first check to see if the RF switch is even there. Take a small screwdriver and push the actuator in with an antenna on the radio while listening to a carrier. There should be a in increase in noise or drop in signal altogether. If no change, I'd open the radios and verify there is an RF switch on the board.

You're right. On this particular radio it is the switch on the radio.

Thanks for all your help.
