I've heard a few negative stories about BCT15 scanners in cars. Supposedly the screens go bad on them from the sun. I was wondering if anyone else on this board has experienced this problem. If so, how was your scanner installed? (IE in-dash, on the dash board, control mount, in a console, etc).

Any answers are appreciated.
Thanks!!

I've got a 996 in my truck (console-mount) which is essentially the same... it sees plenty of sun with no issues. I know of several others installed with no issues as far as the display "going bad".

They do have a known issue with a piece of flex running from the logic board to the front, which shakes loose with vibration. Typical symptoms are inop buttons and only the green backlight (no red) working. Fixing it isn't that difficult - just reseat the flex.
